Deepak Punia is one of our top contenders at the Olympics when it comes to wresting and the man is confident of a medal in Tokyo. Right now he’s all set to make us proud in the Asian Wrestling Championships on home soil.
“I am participating in this for the competition. But my target will always be to win gold. I am preparing as much as I can for it and the rest we’ll see what happens,” he told IANS.
He is confident of a good show.
“My tactics will be depending on what position I am in during the bout. I will try to react the right way to situations. All wrestlers that come to the championships have come through trials and qualifiers. So I can’t really say which one will be more difficult than the other,” he said.
Last year he won silver at the World Championships and is now looking to get into good shape ahead of the Games. The silver at worlds at helped him make it to the Olympics in his first attempt.
The Games begin on July 24 and we could well see him on the podium when it’s all over.
