How do comedians take insults? They often turn it into a joke, but do they feel bad about it? Of course, they do.
Known for his spontaneity, comic sense, and presence of mind, Maniesh Paul is one of the best anchor/TV presenters we have in India currently. Hailed as Sultan of Stage, Paul recently revealed the time when he felt embarrassed and insulted after Akshay Kumar shouted “chup kar” at him during a show.
Why did Akshay Kumar shout at Maniesh Paul?
The incident took place when Akshay Kumar was walking off the stage after receiving an award. This is when Maniesh asked him, “Akshay sir ek dialogue to bol dijiye (at least say a dialogue).” This is when Akki turned around and said, “Chup kar” in a stern voice.
“I started sweating at this. My mother had also come for the first time to see my show.
“I was so embarrassed that beizzati hogayi (I’ve been insulted),” Maniesh Paul told Humans Of Bombay. He said he knew it was either the end of his career or the beginning.
He decided to follow Akshay to his seat despite the fact he told him not to. “I started telling him how he insulted me in front of my mother. I said I was just asking him for tips on acting. Our conversation just went to another level and everyone was in splits,” he said.
Akshay loved the conversation with Maniesh Paul
He then told him that he loved the conversation with him and even praised Paul for his great sense of humour.
Maniesh Paul started his career as a Rajio Jockey. He used to host Radio City’s morning drive-time show called Kasakai Mumbai. He made his acting debut via Star One’s Ghost Bana Dost in which he essayed the role of a Ghost. He went on to act in shows like Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi on NDTV Imagine, Zindadil on ZeeNext, and Ssshhhh…Phir Koi Hai on Star One. He started his journey as an anchor with Wheel Ghar Ghar Mein.
He then acted in Kahani Shuru with Love Guru on Zee TV and Kuchh Cook Hota Hai on 9X. However, he wasn’t happy and quit daily soaps. He was out of work for eight months. He acted in cameo roles in Tees Maar Khan and bagged lead role in Mickey Virus. Subsequently, he also became a TV presenter and hosted shows like Comedy Circus, Dance India Dance and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa among other.
Last seen in Jugjugg Jeeyo and Rafuchakkar, Maniesh Paul continues to prove his versatility.
