On Wednesday, the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi announced that entry of outside vehicles into the campus will be restricted from 10 pm to 6 am.
The announcement was made hours after some inebriated men in a car entered the campus and attempted to kidnap two students.

Engineering student arrested
The incident took place on Tuesday night and police have registered two cases based on complaints from students of the university.
“Two complaints — one regarding physical assault and another on molestation, attempt to kidnap — have been received from JNU students. Cases have been registered,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Manoj C said.
Police on Thursday said that one of the four men involved in the incident has been arrested, while the other three have been identified.
According to the police, the arrested accused, Abhishek, is an engineering student, although he is not from JNU.
What JNU administration said
Following the incident, the JNU administration urged the residents to inform the security branch or the police in case of any information.

“We have taken serious note of the incident and a police complaint has been lodged. The JNU administration has been closely coordinating with the police in the process of investigation. It has recommended strictest punishment to perpetrators of the crime,” the administration said.
New guidelines for students
Apart from the restriction on entry of vehicles, the administration has also made ID cards mandatory for those residing on the campus to enter JNU.
The students have also been advised to confirm their guests at the main gate either in person or through a phone call.
“All residents of JNU are requested to produce their identity cards at the entry gate whenever asked by the JNU Security. Further, all residents are advised to confirm and identify their guests at the main gate either in person or through phone call. All the stakeholders are requested to cooperate with the security to ensure safe and secure campus,” a statement said.
Zero tolerance
The administration also asked the stakeholders to remain vigilant while the investigation is underway, adding that it has taken steps to bolster the security of the campus residents.

It said the varsity practices “zero tolerance” for any form of violence and is “committed towards providing a safe and secure environment to all”.
“The safety and fearless movement of women on the campus is our topmost priority and we are committed to stringent enforcement of the law dealing with sexual harassment in any form or by anyone,” the statement added.
