Colombian Players Receive Death Threats From Fans After They Miss Two Penalties Against England

Mateus Uribe and Carlos Bacca received death threats from Colombian fans after they missed two penalties against England during their Last 16 match in the FIFA World Cup. Colombia were knocked out after they lost to England.

England’s goalkeeper was able to stop Bacca’s penalty while Uribe’s hit the crossbar.

Earlier during the team’s opener against Japan, Carlos Sanchez, another Colombian player received death threats after he was sent off three minutes into the match.

Twitter was filled with tweets were fans warned the players that they were dead if they ever went back to the country and asked them to kill themselves.

Others urged for peace

It was the 24th Death Anniversary of Colombian player Andres Escobar who was shot dead after an own goal in the USA in 1994 World Cup. Columbia was knocked out of the match after that.
