Bengaluru: Brimming with confidence post her London Olympics bronze medal win, five-time world champion Mary Kom said on Wednesday that she is gearing up to prove her mettle at the Rio Summer Olympics 2016.

Speaking on the sidelines of a felicitation ceremony here, he 29-year-old mother of two, expressed disappointment over not being able to grab a gold medal.She, however, hoped for success in her upcoming endeavors.”The entire country was awaiting my gold medal in the London Olympics and even I was very confident that I would get the gold. I think I was unlucky that day and maybe my body didn”t allow me to do what I wanted to. I was sad and even apologised to the nation. I am gearing up for the Rio Olympics 2016 and aim to perform better,” Kom said.Kom bagged bronze medal in the women’s 51 kg flyweight event after defeating Tunisia”s Maroua Rahali.Kom, one of the pioneers of women’s boxing, is also the face of the long campaign to get women”s boxing included into the Olympics.
