Apple nuts who have been burned by the iOS 8 update and its memory hogging ways (as much as 23% of storage) might have someone other than the Apple ‘Genius’ Bar employees to help them out.

A new California lawsuit is taking on Apple Inc. for deceptive advertising. The 5-million-dollar lawsuit alleges that Apple lies about offering 8 GB or 16 GB variants, because iOS 8 takes a LOT of memory. And, to make up for the missing space, they say that Apple then asks users to buy iCloud storage. People grab the iCloud when they have no other resort, and they need that photo or video of their life’s most important moment. We already know that Apple doesn’t believe in external storage and no Apple device sports a memory card slot.

“Upgrading from iOS 7 to iOS 8 will cost a device between 600 MB and 1.3 GB of space — a result that no consumer could reasonably anticipate.” the suit contends. Every GB of lost space is about 400-500 high-res photos. Which means that either users delete music, photos, videos or apps, or spend anywhere between a dollar to 30 dollars a month on storage for iCloud.
