WhatsApp could soon become a single-stop destination to access your official documents in India.
Government of India’s WhatsApp chatbot launched last year to get information about Covid-19 vaccination slots and other information including certificates for the same.
Now, it appears that GOI is capitalising on the ease of access offered by its official chatbot.

What does this new WhatsApp capability mean?
Quite simply, no more going to confusing government websites to download digital copies of your official documents. Every thing including your driving licence, income tax certificate, and even PAN card would become instantly available for Indian citizens.
A report by Economic Times cited government officials as saying that the pilot testing for the project is already underway, with an imminent launch in the coming weeks.

Here’s how it will work – every document stored on a user’s DigiLocker (again, validated by GOI) would become accessible instantly on the WhatsApp chatbot. To mark the switch, GOI has changed the chatbot’s name from MyGov Corona Helpdesk to MyGov Helpdesk, ET reported.

Using OTP/mobile phone verification, citizens would be able to access a slew of official documents.
About 80 million people in India have used the MyGov Corona Helpdesk bot on WhatsApp to get information about Covid-19. According to ET, 32 million people have downloaded their vaccination certificates from the WhatsApp chatbot so far.
