Sex dolls are getting more advanced by the day, to the point where you could one day have a meaningful conversation with one. On the other hand, it could also just straight up murder you.
Cybersecurity researcher Nick Patterson warned last year that advanced sex robots could eventually be turned on their owners. Not so much rogue AI deciding the dolls were done being objectified, so much as a rogue hacker messing with their programming.
In their current state, hackers couldn’t do much with advanced sex dolls aside from perhaps turning them into horrible versions of people. But in the future, when these sexual aids are perhaps automated and capable of movement, cracking into their code would give hackers the ability to be move arms, legs, or even the entire body.
In fact, considering how much narrower the use cases of these bots, they may actually be less secure than say a person’s smartphone, laptop, or car. Of course, this prediction isn’t just limited to sex dolls, but to any kind of robot that’s connected to the Internet. And considering any of these would need to have connectivity in order to receive updates from the manufacturers, it’s a very real fear. We might have a little time before that’s actually possible, but those days are probably not very far away either.
