WhatsApp To Limit Status Videos To 15 Seconds In India To Reduce Internet Strain

With the increase in internet activity across the globe led by Coronavirus pandemic induced lockdown, social media platforms and messaging services are limiting some of their features to decrease the strain on the available internet bandwidth. WhatsApp now seems to be doing the same.

In a recent post on Twitter, WABetaInfo has announced that WhatsApp will be limiting the duration of videos that can be uploaded on the Status section of the chat app.

While the earlier duration for the same was 30 seconds, WhatsApp will now be limiting it to a total of 15 seconds. As mentioned above, the move is to lower the use of Internet bandwidth by the WhatsApp users.

Since the videos uploaded on the Status section stay there for 24 hours, WhatsApp servers will likely strain the internet bandwidth much less than before with the reduced duration of the videos.

A tweet followed by the earlier confirmation noticed that WhatsApp will be bringing this change for a limited time only. The temporary decision is likely to be restored back to normal once the COVID-19 induced lockdown is lifted off from across the globe.

Others are doing their bit too. Most recently, online streaming services including Netflix, Amazon, Facebook, Instagram as well as YouTube have cut down their video quality to use less internet bandwidth.
