According to Meta, Communities on WhatsApp “will enable people to bring together separate groups under one umbrella with a structure that works for them.”
Meta said in a statement, “While other apps are building chats for hundreds of thousands of people, we’re choosing to focus on supporting the groups that are part of our daily lives.”
The feature allows for people to receive updates sent to the entire Community and easily organise smaller discussion groups on important matters.
As per the press release, it will also offer admins powerful new tools such as announcement messages that are sent to everyone as well as control over the inclusion of a particular group.
How do Communities work?
To put it in simpler terms, Communities act as a mega group that will hold several other groups under it, of a similar theme or nature.
Along with this, Meta is also working on a few more upgrades such as allowing a 32-person audio call, reactions on messages, the power for the admin to delete messages for other users as well as the capability to share files of over two gigabytes in size.

The messages will continue to be end-to-end encrypted, which promises to add an additional layer of security and privacy to chats.
Communities as a feature isn’t ready yet. This along with the other aforementioned add-ons in the coming weeks.
