With Ganesh Chathurti around the corner, devotees this year are bringing in this auspicious festival on an environmental friendly note. How? By make their own eco-friendly idols of Lord Ganesha.

Environmentalists have always warned us about how buying lord ganesha’s idols made out of plaster of paris (POP) when immersed in a sea or river, will deplete the water body and aquatic life. And now this concern is of the past. Case in point? A total of 2,138 Bengaluruians assembled in the National College grounds with a solid mission – to create biodegradable idols of Lord Ganesha. Check out some of the pictures below:

These eco-friendly Ganesha idols are made using biodegradable raw materials that don’t have any inorganic materials. So, when these idols are immersed in water for the Virsarjan, they will not be harming the water bodies in comparison to those idols made out of plaster of paris.

What’s even more remarkable is that people of Bengaluru also set an astounding Guinness World Records for the highest number of people gathered for sculpting with the model clay, which was a total of 2,138. So, there we have it – a double win for the people of Bengaluru!
