If you like visiting Wikipedia pages as much as I do (I have to read about the personal lives of celebrities), you must have noticed that recently the free Internet-based encyclopedia has been asking its reader for donations.
Wikipedia has helped us get out of sticky situations – who else stayed up all night looking up history facts on the internet while finishing school work? Now, the encyclopedia is in need of our help too – they are asking its readers for funds.
Wikipedia
Wikipedia flashes a message that reads: “Hi. This isn’t the first time we’ve interrupted your reading recently, but 98% of our readers don’t donate. Many think they’ll give later, but then forget. This [day of the week] we request you to protect Wikipedia. All we ask is ₹25, or whatever seems right to you, to sustain our future. We request you: Please don’t scroll away. If you are one of our rare donors, we warmly thank you.”

However, people on the internet are having some fun with Wikipedia’s humble request – no points for guessing that there are enough memes on it. This also conveys the message that people are not as empathetic as we thought they were. There were a few who thought they owed it to Wikipedia because of their life-long loyalty to the platform.
There were also users who pointed out that Wikipedia does not require funds to begin with.
