Twitter Praises King Charles' Composure After Protestor Tosses Eggs At Monarch

A 23-year-old man has been arrested after an egging incident involving King Charles III – the current head of the Royal family in England. He and his wife, Camilla were walking in the northern England city of York when the incident occurred on Wednesday.

The man missed his target and was immediately apprehended by the police after he threw three eggs at the monarch.

The accused, identified as a University of York student, booed at the Royal couple and shouted, “This country was built on the blood of slaves” as the cops were detaining him at the spot.

Other crowd members tried to counter his protest by chanting “Shame on you” and “God save the King.”

Despite the commotion, Charles didn’t seem to be affected by the incident. In a composed response, he stepped around the eggs splattered on the pavement.

People on the micro-blogging site soon started pouring their opinions on the incident. While a few were charmed by the monarch’s composure, others took this moment to voice their reservations about Britain’s monarchy.

Royals under scrutiny in Commonwealth realm

As per Washington Post, the role of Britain and its Royals in the slave trade is under scanner in several countries – where the British monarch is still head of state.

Earlier this year, when Prince William and his wife, Catherine were touring the Caribbean, the activists there demanded that the Royal family issue an apology and support reparations for slavery.

This is not the first incident when the newly appointed King has been subjected to dissent. After Queen Elizabeth’s death, several dissidents were held for staging protests.

In one such incident, an individual was arrested in Edinburgh, Scotland, for holding a sign with profanity and the words “abolish the monarchy.”

Also, a woman was arrested for shouting, “who elected him” while an official document proclaiming Charles as King was being read aloud in Oxford, England.
