Unfortunately, Gill couldn’t see the film. He passed away in 2019 following a cardiac arrest at the age of 80. Akshay had the chance to talk to him. While the movie has got mixed reactions from audience with a certain section raving about the movie, here’s how the family of the unsung hero reacted to the film.

“That validation is important. I spoke to his wife, I spoke to his daughter, it is important. I cannot express what they said, it is something the words can’t (express), it’s a feeling, it’s their faces. Ek line hai, ‘Main te daddy nu tuade andar dekh liya’ ( I saw my dad in you). It’s the biggest validation a person can get if a person gets to do a role like that. The rest is the validation coming from the media, the audience and love coming from everywhere,” said Akshay Kumar as quoted by Bollywood Bubble.
Jaswant Gill’s daughter Hina Gill in an interview with The Firstpost said, “I was very happy and it was a dream come true to know Akshay Kumar would play the role of my dad. I’m speechless to be honest. The movie was very good, he played it so well, he put all his emotions and gave his best. Nobody could’ve played this role better than Akshay Kumar.”
Earlier, the film was titled Mission Raniganj: The Great India Rescue. However, the film’s title was changed amid the government’s decision to change the name of the country from India to Bharat. In a conversation with News 18, when the actor was asked about the same, he said, ” Is there anything wrong if we changed it to Bharat? No, right. So just enjoy it.”
He added, “I agree India is not wrong and is also right. Bharat is a great name and it is in our constitution so we decided to change it.”
