Through his songs, KK always made us fall in love in so many shades and his love life was equally colourful.
KK sang songs like ‘Dil Kyun Ye Mera’, ‘Yaaron’, ‘Pal’, ‘Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai’ and ‘O Meri Jaan’, among others. During one of his appearances on The Kapil Sharma Show, KK shared that he and Jyothi were childhood sweethearts. The couple met first in 6th standard and KK eventually proposed to him in class 10th.
He told Kapil, “Ek connection ho jaata hai, Kapil. Isliye toh maine vo gaana banaya, Yaaron Dosti, Dosti se shuruat hoti hai phir mohabbat ho jaati hai… (You build a connection, Kapil. That is why I sang the song ‘Yaaron Dosti’. It all starts with friendship and turns into love).”
In one of his earlier interviews with Aaj Tak, KK had recalled singing ‘Pyaar Deewana Hota Hai’ for Jyothy during his colony’s annual festival.

Interestingly both of their parents were present there. Asked if he could look into her eyes, KK said, “We could not do such things at the time. Our parents used to be there as well. We could not be so direct. I had to steal glances while singing.” The singer then proposed to Jyothy for marriage because he believed when you feel strongly about something, “just say it.”
Later to convince Jyothi’s parents, KK went on a job hunt and ended up taking up something around marketing.

He talked about this in an interview with Movie Talkies and said, “Job karni zaroori thi, nahi toh main agar bolta ki main gaata hun, toh vo bolte gaata toh main bhi hun, kaam kya karte ho? (I needed to take up a job else they would have asked me what I do, and they would have ignored me if I said I sing)”.
It was in 1991 that KK and Jyothy finally tied the knot. Soon after, Jyothi motivated KK to move to Mumbai and build a career in music.
The late singer once told Bollywood Hungama, “In Delhi I was doing jingles, producing, had a band, was performing. It was not a very firm thing. At that time, I used to feel nothing is permanent. So, Jyothi used to tell me, ‘I think you should go to Bombay, you should try your luck there. What will you achieve here?’”.

KK shared with Sony Music India in another interview, “She made me take the decision which on my own I would not have taken. She helped me get out of a certain state of mind. She continues to do that even now. It worked well for me that I got married before I settled down, and she helped me in settling down.”
