Here’s all you need to know about Sumit Arora
Sumit met Atlee a few years back through a common friend and bonded so well with him that he told him about a Hindi movie he was working on. A year and a half later when Atlee wrote the screenplay of Jawan, he called Sumit for the film.
“For Shah Rukh sir, you have to write lines that carry [gravitas]. He is humorous, so you keep that in mind too,” he was quoted as saying by Mid-Day.
Do you know he also wrote the popular dialogue ‘O Stree Kal Aana’ from Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree?
He was then roped in by Raj and DK for The Family Man. He has also written dialogues for Dahaad.
Dahaad is a series created by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti which starred Sonakshi Sinha, Vijay Verma, Gulshan Devaiah and Sohum Shah among others.
When Kabir Khan watched Stree, he was so impressed that he told Sumit he would work with him.
That’s how he bagged Ranveer Singh starrer 83.
He is currently winning praises for Guns and Gulaabs.
The recently released web show starring Adarsh Gourav, Dulquer Salmaan, Rajkummar Rao, Gulshan Devaiah and Satish Kaushik is quite popular among the fans.
Before working as a dialogue writer, Sumit Arora has also written scripts for shows like Chhoona Hai Aasmaan and Dill Mill Gayye.
Writing since the age of 15, Arora came to Mumbai in 2006.
He hails from Meerut. He started writing satires for newspapers. “By the time I was 18, my articles were already published in all the leading Hindi newspapers of the country. Also, my articles used to appear on the Editorial pages, which was a big thing. I was even offered a job in the newspaper,” he told Bollywood Hungama.
Post this, he saw Lagaan and realised how dialogues hold so much power in a movie. So, he came to Mumbai in search of work. After working in Chhoona Hai Aasmaan and Dill Mill Gayye, he finally got his first film Stree.
About writing dialogues for SRK, he told Pinkvilla, “We would often have a lot of creative discussions, and he’s someone who is constantly thinking. Till the time he gives his shot, he is always thinking, What can he do better? How can he improve his lines? How can he deliver them better? He’s just so involved in the whole process of filmmaking, and you have to keep up with him and his energy.”
His forthcoming projects include Kartik Arryan’s sports drama Chandu Champion, Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu starrer Raj & DK’s Citadel India and Varun’s upcoming movie with Atlee, co-starring Keerthy Suresh and Wamiqa Gabbi.
