Bastille Day or French National Day – July 14
Bastille Day is celebrated on 14 July every year. This day marks the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789 which is a turning point of the French Revolution.
1942 – Quit India Resolution passed by Congress
The Congress Working Committee meeting at Wardha, which was held on 14 July 1942, passed the Quit India Resolution demanding complete independence from the British government. The draft proposed massive civil disobedience if the British did not accede to the demands.

1789 – French revolutionaries storm the Bastille
One of the revolutionary days in Paris and now a national holiday, the 14th of July (“Bastille Day”) is celebrated with a mixture of solemn military parades and easygoing dancing and fireworks. The storming of the Bastille on July 14, 1789, has been commemorated in France for more than a century.
1798 – Sedition Act becomes federal law
On this day in 1798, the enactment of the Sedition Act made it a crime to publish “false, scandalous and malicious writing” against the government or its officials. It carried an expiration date of March 3, 1801, the day before John Adams’s presidential term ended.
1965 – Mars flyby of Mariner 4
