2008 – Batla House Encounter

On September 13, 2008, five bombs exploded at Connaught Place, Greater Kailash, Karol Bagh and India Gate, leading to the registration of five cases. Later, the Indian Mujahideen had taken responsibility for the blasts.

On September 19, 2008, the encounter took place after the police under the supervision of Inspector Sharma received information about the presence of suspects at a flat in Batla House. The police had conducted the raid at the flat to trace and look out for a user of one mobile number.

What happened in World History on September 19

1893 – New Zealand first in women’s vote

On September 19, 1893, New Zealand women won the right to vote in elections. As a result, New Zealand became the first self-governing country in the world to extend this right to all women. Suffrage Day celebrates the aims of the movement for gender equality and is a reminder of the ongoing issue of equality for women.

1957 – The First Underground Nuclear Test

On September 19, 1957, the Laboratory detonated the first contained underground nuclear explosion. Rainier was fired beneath a high mesa at the northwest corner of the Nevada Test Site, which later became known as Rainier Mesa.

Carrying out such an explosion had been proposed early in 1956 by Edward Teller and Dave Griggs, a geophysicist who greatly contributed to Teller’s effort to establish a second nuclear laboratory while serving as Chief Scientist of the U.S. Air Force in the early 1950s. Their interest was in the coupling of the explosion energy to the surrounding geology and in the resulting seismic effects.

1983 – Saint Kitts and Nevis gain their Independence from the British Crown

St Kitts and Nevis achieved full independence on September 19, 1983. Kennedy Simmonds of the PAM, Premier since 1980, duly became the country’s first Prime Minister.
