Blocking The Way Of Ambulance Could Lead To Rs 10,000 Fine In Gurugram

Emergency service vehicles like ambulances are largely exempted from traffic rules and other motorists are expected to give way to them as they could be carrying a patient in urgent medical attention.

But given the traffic situation on our roads, it is not uncommon to see even ambulances getting stuck in the flood of vehicles.

Rs 10,000 fine for blocking ambulance

To make matters worse, there have been instances where other motorists have blocked the way for the ambulances.

Doing this in Gurugram will soon lead to a fine of Rs 10,000. 

The Gurugram Traffic Police has asked the general public to give way to the emergency service vehicles or face fines if they fail to abide by the rules.

“Traffic Advisory:
*Give way to Emergency Vehicles*
It is advised to all commuters to Give Way to Emergency Vehicles like Ambulance, Fire Brigades etc.
As per Motor vehicle act intentional Offenders will be challaned,” Gurugram Traffic Police said in a social media post.

Police to keep an eye on such vehicles 

“As per section 194E MV Act 1988 (amended 2019), if a vehicle fails to pull to the side of the road or block the way of an ambulance, or any other emergency service vehicle, the driver may be punished with imprisonment of up to six months or with a fine of Rs 10,000 or both,” police said.

Virender Vij, DCP (Traffic), said that the traffic officials will keep an eye on such vehicles and will also record vehicles that do not give way to the emergency vehicles.

“An online challan will be sent to offenders. This initiative will also help in saving the lives of serious patients during an emergency,” he said.

Green corridors for ambulances

Gurugram Traffic Police further said that they are providing green corridors for ambulances carrying organs for transplanting to different hospitals and helping to save the lives of serious patients.

Green corridors refer to the paths created for specific trips of ambulances, through which they can travel without any stoppages. Such green corridors are created to ensure that organs or critical patients arrive at the hospital within the shortest possible time.

In 2023, 15 corridors were provided by traffic police in Gurugram.
