The Women’s Premier League (WPL) kicked off in Bengaluru with a super exciting match between the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals. 

But guess what caught everyone’s attention? Fans are buzzing because they think they heard Sachin Tendulkar’s voice as the third umpire! 

Yep, in a video that went viral on Instagram, it sounds like Tendulkar is making a call on an LBW decision. How crazy is that? Fans on the internet can’t stop talking about it!

Fans mistake umpire role in WPL clash

“Sachin Tendulkar is 3rd umpire in WPL,” read a viral Instagram post.

Fans quickly joined in, with one saying, “Even I was thinking the same,” and another commenting, “Yes, I recognized the voice from the live show.”

Social media users correctly identified the third umpire as Paschim Pathak, while one humorously noted, “Sachin is now in Kashmir.”

Tendulkar, who is currently spending time with his family in Kashmir, recently met Jammu and Kashmir Para cricket team captain Amir Lone. He shared a video of their interaction, captioned, “To Amir, the real hero. Keep inspiring! It was a pleasure meeting you,” on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

Déjà Vu WPL moment involving Sachin Tendulkar

Interestingly, this comparison might feel like déjà vu for some cricket fans.

During a 2023 Women’s Premier League (WPL) match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Giants, fans were surprised to hear the voice of cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar as the TV umpire.

The incident happened during the eighth over of the Giants’ innings when Sneh Rana challenged a leg-before-wicket decision. Even though the decision didn’t favour Rana, both sets of fans enjoyed the familiar voice. 

At that time as well, speculation arose about whether it was the third umpire Paschim Pathak or Sachin Tendulkar himself behind the microphone.
