From being termed a ‘crypto Robinhood in the crypto world, to now staring at a jail term of as much as 115 years, it’s been a drastic turn of fortunes for bankrupt crypto exchange FTX’s once billionaire CEO Sam Bankman-Fried.
At present, Sam Bankman-Fried, also known as SFB, is in prison at the Brooklyn detention centre, where authorities are only offering the vegan man “flesh diet” options unsuitable to sustain him, Bankman-Fried’s legal team has said in court, as the former billionaire-turned-alleged fraudster awaits trial in jail.

Sam Bankman-Fried had said in 2021 that his decision to go vegan was “all for animal welfare” and he had happily recounted that Oreo cookies are “one of nature’s more surprising vegan foods.”
But in jail, Sam Bankman-Fried’s diet consists “literally” of just bread, water and “sometimes” peanut butter, his attorney Mark Cohen said at a Tuesday morning hearing, according to reporters present at the New York courthouse, as per Forbes.
Bankman-Fried entered a not guilty plea Tuesday for fresh fraud charges related to his oversight of his former crypto empire including bankrupt FTX and the Alameda Research hedge fund.
The 31-year-old former billionaire is only served a “flesh diet” at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn he’s called home for the last 11 days, since a federal judge ordered him to jail for violating bail conditions earlier this month. SFB’s attorney Cohen added that his client has not received his Adderall medication to treat his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, while he has only a “few” antidepressant Emsam patches left.

Also, last week, the federal judge presiding over the case approved a request for Bankman-Fried to continue taking the medications while in federal custody.
Earlier this year, Sam Bankman-Fried had pleaded not guilty in court. This had come about two months after he apologised and said “sorry” to the crypto exchange’s investors for FTX’s collapse.
