Purple northern lights seen in Manitoba

For many people in Canada, this dream turned into a reality when the sky turned purple with blue streaks, displaying the dazzling show of northern lights.

Also known as aurora borealis, the phenomenon left people awestruck in Canada’s Manitoba as they witnessed the rare occurrence on Tuesday.

“Incredibly bright purple Northern Lights! Manitoba, Canada. This is caused by the setting sun (blue light) interacting with the red aurora, which is the highest aurora (400km). Blue + Red = Purple,” claimed Reddit user JAND3R50N. The video he shot shows purple and green coloured northern lights that have lit up the sky.

Netizens were awestruck

Since being posted, it has been liked over 500 times. Many have also commented on the post, appreciating the beauty of the natural phenomenon.

A user wrote, “Aurora Borealis? At this time of year? At this time of day? In this part of the country? Localized in Manitoba?” Another shared, “Stunning.” A third added, “Wow!! Beautiful!” “This is like a computer screen saver,” expressed a fourth.

Aurora display in Ladakh too

This comes a day after Ladakh was treated to a stunning aurora display that is rarely seen at lower latitudes. The geomagnetic storm, caused by a solar flare, created strong disturbances in the magnetic field and allowed the aurora to be visible as far south as Ladakh.

Locals and tourists alike were left in awe as they watched the sky come alive with vibrant shades of green, pink, and purple. Many took to social media to share their photos and videos of the rare event.

An aurora, known as polar or northern lights, is a natural light display in Earth’s sky, predominantly seen in high-latitude regions. Auroras display dynamic patterns of brilliant lights that appear as curtains, rays, spirals, or dynamic flickers covering the entire sky.
