Virat Kohli Is Closing In On Sachin Tendulkar's World Record Of Most ODI Centuries

When Sachin Tendulkar scored his 18th ODI 100 in 1998, he became the man with the most ODI tons. When the Master Blaster left ODIs in 2012, he finished 49 tons. Fast forward to 2023, Sachin still holds the record. But one man is closing in.

Virat Kohli scored his 1st ODI ton in 2009 and now, he has 46 ODI centuries and needs 4 to go past Sachin. Should Kohli do so, he will also be the first to score fifty ODI hundreds and that’s really something.

The 34-year-old was on a century drought in the format since 2019 but in his last 4 innings he has made 3 of them. There is every chance he may achieve the feat this year itself. It could even happen in the World Cup.

But that’s not the only record Kohli has a shot at in ODIs. Sachin finished with 18,426 ODI runs, the most by anyone. Kohli is right now in fifth place with 12,754 runs. Among active players, he is the closest but still needs well over five and a half thousand runs to go past Sachin. It will be a race against time.

But as far as the ODI century record is concerned, Kohli has a realistic chance. The odds are that whatever record he ends up setting will be virtually impossible to break.
