Rahul Dravid served as Sourav Ganguly’s deputy and then was also his successor. When it came to leading Team India, Dravid’s record was not exceptional. In fact, it was one of the worst phases for the Indian cricket team. Having said that, there were some good patches.
In 2004, filling in for an injured Ganguly, Dravid led India to their first-ever Test win on Pakistani soil. The match was famous for Virender Sehwag’s 309 and also is remembered when Dravid declared the innings when Sachin Tendulkar was on 194. We won on the last morning and that too by an innings.

In 2006, we won our first Test series in West Indies after 35 years under him. After losing the ODIs 4-1, we won 1-0 in the Tests and this was something to remember.
Later the same year, Dravid was in charge when India won their 1st Test in South Africa. Sadly we could not capitalise on the 1-0 lead and lost the series 2-1.

In 2007, India beat England 1-0 in the Test series and Dravid was at the helm once again. This was our first Test series win in England since 1986. Our last till date.
So The Wall does have many things to be proud of. He may not have been our best leader, but he was not the worst either.
