Apple has reportedly bought a startup that makes music by employing the powers of artificial intelligence. Gone are the days of Elton John and Madonna, our next pop superstar could be… an algorithm!
While we may be a bit far away from that reality, Apple just bought a startup called “AI Music” that uses artificial intelligence to generate tailor-made music, Bloomberg reported on Wednesday.

What’s AI Music?
A London-based startup, AI Music’s technology can generate soundtracks with royalty-free music, a copy of its now defunct website revealed. Founded in 2016, the company’s acquisition by Apple was reportedly completed in the recent weeks.
What can AI Music do? Essentially, its tech can create the right music for each user based on how they interact with the platform. Still confused? For perspective, think of various moods that trigger you to play GTAV – ranging from ecstatic and irritable. In both scenarios, your preference would be different and AI Music helps with exactly that by offering you the right mix in the middle of video games or even workouts.

Apple’s interest in music companies has shot up in recent years. The super-company’s last acquisition was also of a music company called Primephonic, a classical music streaming service that would be tied with Apple Music this year.

According to AI Music’s LinkedIn page, the company “give consumers the power to choose the music they want, seamlessly edited to fit their needs or create dynamic solutions that adapt to fit their audiences.”

It appears that Apple is eager to take over the music streaming market and to beat out the undisputed king of music streaming Spotify – an app currently embroiled in controversy over its take on content moderation after Joe Rogan’s repeated usage of words that are considered slurs.
