Google Faces Potential Lawsuit For Ending Free 'G Suite' Service: Here's Why

Google’s woes aren’t ending anytime soon. As the global crackdown on Big Tech continues, Google is now looking at potential class-action lawsuits for shutting down free G Suite legacy accounts.

If you use Google Suite tools (now called Google Workplace) for your workplace needs, you should know that Google used to offer free access to Google apps to users who managed to get access before 2012. Companies pay Google a certain fee to keep using Gmail through a custom domain like xyz@organisation.com instead of xyz@Gmail.com.

Many people naturally reaped benefits of the formerly free service. But after Google said that support for free accounts was ending, the customers had to their pay for keeping their custom domains or move to a standard Gmail account.

A potential lawsuit in the works

Now, attorneys at Chimicles Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith are opening an investigation into the matter to initiate a class-action lawsuit against Google. The firm has sued Google for many issues with its Nexus line up and was also associated with the Nintendo Joy-Con drift class-action lawsuit.

The problem is that if users move to standard Gmail accounts from their custom domains, they lose access to their entire Google repository – Google Play apps, films, and more; for the previous account would be considered broken by Google.

The suit hasn’t been filed yet but Android Police reported that the law firm is currently collecting data to assess the potential of a lawsuit.
