Babur defeats the Afghan Chiefs in the Battle of Ghaghra, India

On May 6, 1529, Babur defeats the Afghan chiefs in the Battle of Ghaghra. The Battle of Ghaghra was fought between Mughal forces under Babur and the Sultanate of Bengal under Sultan Nusrat Shah.

1542 – Francis Xavier, the first Roman Catholic missionary to India, reached Old Goa

Francis disembarked in Goa, the centre of Portuguese activity in the East, on May 6, 1542; his companion had remained behind to work in Lisbon. Much of the next three years he spent on the southeastern coast of India among the simple, poor pearl fishers, the Paravas.

1922 – Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj died

Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj also known as Rajarshi Shahu was considered a true democrat and social reformer. First Maharaja of the princely state of Kolhapur, he was an invaluable gem in the history of Maharashtra.

2010 – Ajmal Amir Kasab, convicted for the 26/11 attack in Mumbai

The Supreme Court today upheld the death sentence of 26/11 Mumbai terror attack convict Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab, saying that waging war against the country was the primary and foremost offence committed by the Pakistani terrorist

Hindenburg crash

On May 6, 1937, the hydrogen-filled German airship Hindenburg caught fire and crashed while attempting to dock at Lakehurst, New Jersey; 35 of the 97 people on board were killed along with a crewman on the ground.

15,000 American and Filipino troops on Corregidor island surrendered to Japanese forces  

In 1942, during World War II, some 15,000 American and Filipino troops on Corregidor Island surrendered to Japanese forces.

The first nuclear warhead is fired from a Polaris submarine

On May 6, 1962, the submerged Ethan Allen launched a stockpile Polaris missile toward Christmas Island, successfully detonating the Livermore warhead 1,000 miles out and 11,000 feet high. 

The Channel Tunnel linking England to France is officially opened

The Channel Tunnel is a 50.5-kilometre (31-mile) undersea tunnel that connects Folkestone, Kent, in England, to Coquelles, Pas-de-Calais, in France. It is the longest undersea tunnel in the world and was officially opened on May 6, 1994.
