Andhra woman swims across swollen Champavati river to appear for exam

A 21-year-old woman was so adamant about taking her exam that she swam across the swollen Champavathi river in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram on Friday. The brave woman has been identified as Taddi Kalavathi, and she’s a resident of Marrivalasa village in Gajapathinagaram Mandal.

Kalavathi risked her life for the exam. She took help from her two brothers and crossed the flooded Champavathi river so that she could attend the exam which was scheduled to be held on Saturday.

In the video, Kalavathi’s brothers can be seen shifting her to another side of the river by carrying her on their shoulders while she too struggles to wade through the flowing water.

According to the sources, Taddi Kalavathi came to her native village two days ago and was prepared to go to Visakhapatnam on Friday as she had an exam on Saturday.

Champavati river has been in a difficult state due to heavy rains upstream, cutting off the village. There were no boats available either. Kalavathy was cut off from all modes of transport leaving her no choice but to swim across the river.
