When a 9-year-old boy was diagnosed with leukemia, he decided to fight it with “a smile on his face and keeping his head high.” And on the last day, when he was taking his final dose, he broke into tears of joy – Steven is now officially cancer-free.
Steven Cotter, who fought a three-year battle with cancer was emotional and happy on his last day of treatment, and his mother captured it. The emotional video has no sound but you can feel the pure happiness of the moment. The boy in the video can be seen crying tears of joy, while his younger brother and father can be seen waiting patiently for him in the corner.
As soon as he takes the last pill (chemotherapy drugs), his family can be seen cheering for him. Seeing him all emotional, his dad goes ahead and embraces him in a warm hug! Ashley Cotter, his mother, who posted the video said, “it is one of the proudest moments I’ve ever lived!”
Here’s the video:
Steven was diagnosed with high-risk acute lymphoblastic leukemia in August 2016, when he was just six years old, his mother told ABC. He underwent his chemo sessions days later and the treatment continued until last week.
“He’s had so many blood and platelet transfusions over the past three years, so many medications and hospital stays,” his mother recalled.
She followed up with the second Facebook post, showing Steven next to a table with dozens of pill bottles, which she said was ‘just a touch of what he’s had to take’, over the course of his treatment.
She also described the time as “heart-wrenching” and said that it was “absolutely horrible to hear the words ‘your son has cancer’.” Cotter also added that she and her family “have come so much closer as a family, came closer to God and always kept the faith!!”
In another happy incident, a 12-year-old colourblind boy’s life changed when his principal offered him a pair of colour-correction glasses. Jonathan’s school principal was also colourblind, but he had a special pair of glasses that enabled him to see colors. He let Jonathan try those glasses on and the boy’s reaction was captured on the viral video which is priceless.
In the video, one can see that Jonathan breaks into tears as soon as he tries the glasses on. He is overwhelmed by the new experience, by witnessing how ‘beautiful’ the world can be. Seeing him all emotional, the principal goes ahead and hugs him. A few seconds later, when Jonathan was a little more calm and in control he put the glasses back on and went towards the colorful periodic table on the classroom wall.

We take so many things for granted – things a lot of people are not fortunate enough to have. What these kids experienced is true happiness, which sometimes seems unattainable.
