In An Effort To Save Money On Groceries, Canadian Mother Feeds Toddler Crickets

Every day, dietary and lifestyle preferences change all over the world. While some people in the world think going vegan can protect the environment and meet all of their nutritional needs, others have been looking at different sources of protein to include in their diet.

A food writer has begun feeding her crickets to satisfy her baby’s protein needs. You did read that correctly. Here’s her story.

More people than ever are concerned about their health. Precautions regarding immunity have become more common, particularly in light of the situation with COVID. Some people desire to live in a sustainable manner.

Getting vegan is a part of that. However, one post made by a Canadian food blogger named Tiffany Leigh has gone viral. She was giving her 18-month-old daughter locusts to eat.

She stated that the rising costs of necessities have them shaken in an interview with a news agency. Because the child spends $250 to $300 (roughly Rs. 25,000) per week on goods, she acknowledged that she had creative ideas for a protein supplement.

Tiffany explains that she is supplementing her baby’s diet with crickets because they are a valuable source of protein. She claimed that in addition to saving money, the baby is receiving the necessary protein.

The mom asserted that consuming insects is pretty normal

The lady claimed that her understanding of entomology guided her choice. She also asserted that she had consumed a variety of insects in the past, including scorpions and spiders.

Tiffany claimed that while visiting places like Thailand and Vietnam, she consumed ants and grasshoppers. It became clear that eating insects was a common practice among the locals.

According to Tiffany, she feeds her infant protein powder and grasshopper puffs. Using crickets as a protein source rather than beef, chicken, or pork can save you up to $100 per week, the study claimed. On social media, some users are criticising Tiffany’s behaviour. Are such tests on a young child necessary? That is what Hitavu says.

“Some people believe the new concept is a good one, but this is essentially punishing a child!” he remarked. It’s supposed to make sure no baby is disturbed. Tiffany did, however, mention that her daughter does not express any resentment or apprehension when accepting a novel food.

She explains that she is eating even though it is not their food in order to do so. Additionally, children will have a positive attitude towards the food they eat if worms and insects are present in it after the age of six months, claims paediatric dietician Venus Kalami.
