In the first ever same-sex marriage in the extended Royal Family, Lord Ivar Mountbatten, a divorced father of three kids – Ella, 22, Alix, 20, and 16-year-old Luli – got married to the love of his life James Coyle. He finally got to marry Coyle, two years after coming out as gay. Lord Mountabtten, the younger son of the 3rd Marquess of Milford Haven, is a cousin of the Queen.
Lord Ivar and James Coyle exchanged rings and vows in front of 60 family and friends including his three proud daughters.
What’s heartwarming and surprising is that his ex-wife gave him away at the wedding. The honeymoon destination is yet to be decided — whether it will be Greece or Croatia — shall be postponed until later in the year.
Ivar’s 17-year-old marriage to Penny hit the rocks in 2011 when they let people know they drifted apart. About two years ago, he caused a stir when he confessed to having struggled with his sexuality throughout his marriage. He said he has known since his teenage years he was bisexual.
He finally admitted he was gay after finding contentment with a man he met in 2014. The revelation in fact strengthened his relationship with ex-wife Penny.
