Being a bus conductor is not a child’s play anymore. There are a lot of responsibilities and a lot of thinking that goes into what and who deserves to sit inside the public transport and seems like there literally aren’t any free lunches – even for inanimate objects.
Recently, there were two incidents where the bus conductors of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) were left shocked and confused. They were slapped a notice by the checking inspector for not issuing tickets to a jack fruit and a gas stove.

According to News18, in the first incident, a woman from Raichur boarded the bus with an LPG gas stove which weighed about half a kg. Naturally, the bus conductor issued the woman a ticket and not her stove. But when the checking inspector started doing his rounds, he noticed that the lady holding the stove was given a ticket for herself and not for the stove which he termed as “extra luggage.”
He blamed the bus conductor and named Goraknath for failing in his duties and imposed disciplinary action against him.
There was another incident in the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus where the fruit was issued a ticket in the bus. Apparently, a specially-abled man was carrying a jackfruit which approximately weighed a kilo in a KSRTC bus in Arasikere. Again, the bus conductor named Raghu didn’t think that he should issue a ticket for the fruit. But again, a checking inspector thought otherwise.

When the bus conductor was doing his rounds on the same bus, he blamed Raghu for not charging the fruit. Raghu did try to explain to the inspector that such a small weighing item cannot be charged extra and it was just a fruit after all. But apparently, the inspector didn’t listen and slapped a disciplinary notice against him.
According to the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) rules any item below 25 kgs is allowed in the bus with the passenger and it wouldn’t be charged. However, anything over and above the given limit will be termed as “extra luggage.” Thus, the passengers, as well as bus conductors, were surprised at the checking inspector’s actions.

There was a similar instance in Telangana where a bus conductor issued a ticket to a rooster. The incident apparently took place at Sultanabad bus stand on Tuesday. The passenger was apparently covering the rooster with a saree to hide it from the bus crew. But the bus conductor saw movement under the cloth and after figuring out charged the guy.
