World's Largest: This Maharashtra Farmer's Bird Feeder Can Feed 108 Birds In One Go

A bird feeder is a container made to hold birdseed and it is usually set outside so birds can enjoy a drink or a bite when they want. They help birds that are not able to find sufficient food in their natural habitat. This can be particularly important in urban or suburban areas where habitat fragmentation and loss of natural food sources may be impacting local bird populations.

You can typically notice them outside of private homes, tall buildings, public spaces, and on the streets of your city. Bird feeders offer food all year round and help many species before their lengthy migration, despite the fact that they are occasionally perceived by other animals as an open invitation to eat and that they are also blamed for spreading diseases.

Depending on the size of the birds, a typical bird feeder can hold 40 to 50 of them and a large number of grains. Sizes differ based on locations and establishments, like how a small feeder might be present in a private home but a large one might be present on a street corner.

Maharashtra man creates ‘world’s largest’ bird feeder

A typical bird feeder can hold a few handfuls of grains, and they typically only feed a small number of birds at once. But a bird feeder created by Haresh Shah, a local of the Maharashtra village of Peepul, can hold 700 kilograms of grain and feed 108 birds simultaneously.

The fact that this bird feeder is made of recyclable materials adds to its appeal. This bird feeder was officially recognised as the largest bird feeder in the world by volume on April 4 of last year by Guinness World Records.

Erik Solheim, a former diplomat from Norway, shared a video of Shah’s impressive work on Wednesday. Shah paid Rs 3,80,000 for this enormous bird feeder. The bird enthusiast was motivated to create it after installing some feeders from the market on his farm and observing an increase in the number of visiting birds.

The man previously used to work in a jewellery store

The Better India reports that Shah previously held a position at a jewellery store but left the position in 2014 to launch a company that sells specialised bird feeders and nests. Shah’s website, amijivdaya.com, offers products like birdhouses, water bowls for birds, homes for sparrows, and bird food.

Prior to this, William “Dan” Greene in West Virginia, United States, held the record for having the biggest bird feeder in the world. A 345 kg grain capacity bird feeder was created by retired teacher Greene.
