That’s why people in China were shocked and appalled when they saw the cheap micro hotels in the country that were taking affordable to a whole new level. The hotel was offering a small bed and a toilet seat beside the bed for 60 yuan (Rs 707) per night.

The infamous hotel was an eight-square-meter room that was put up for overnight rentals in Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan province in central China.

The hotel gained fame on the internet in mainland China when a vlogger decided to spend some time at the micro hotel. Seeing the conditions of the room, people were furious with the impractical layout of the tiny room.

The vlogger, named Hei Mao Zhang, did not spend a whole day at the hotel. He just spent three hours at the place and had his fill. Though the vlogger did clarify that the place had basic amenities and was also clean.

Even after maintaining a neutral opinion of the place, he did add, “But the bed is too close to the toilet. The smell in the room is a bit ‘subtle.’” He was referring to the smell of the toilet since it was unpleasant to have the toilet so close to the bed.

Moreover, the micro-hotel did not just add a toilet seat but also provided an air conditioner, a wash basin, a mirror, a coat hanger, a kettle, and more in the room.

The vlogger explained that the only reason he went to the hotel was that he found the low-priced room online and wanted to check the place out of “curiosity.”

“I opened a door and saw a corridor. On both sides of the corridor are such small rooms which should be part of an apartment that has been split into five to six small cubicles,” said the vlogger.

The hotel owner in a conversation with Red Star News shared that most of his customers were patients or relatives using a health care centre nearby. While others are students preparing for exams. He revealed that the micro rooms were actually quite popular with the customers.
