How did Mark Zuckerberg end up with two black eyes?

“The sparring got out of hand. Maybe I should update my avatar,” he explained in the caption.

In an August 2022 interview, Zuckerberg stated that he originally began studying the martial art form during the COVID-19 pandemic and that the activity offered him an energy boost.

“MMA is the perfect thing,” Zuckerberg said to Joe Rogan, a podcast presenter. “After an hour or two of working out, or rolling or wrestling with friends, or training with different folks, it’s like now I’m ready to go solve whatever problem at work for the day.”

On the podcast, the billionaire also mentioned that he works with coach Dave Camarillo who assisted him in winning gold and silver medals in his first jiu-jitsu match in May.

“Won some medals for the Guerrilla Jiu Jitsu team in my first jiu jitsu tournament,” he wrote on Facebook at the time. “Many thanks to Dave Camarillo, Khai Wu, and James Terry for their instruction!”

What did the coach have to say about Mark?

Camarillo paid respect to Zuckerbeg’s successes on Instagram, saying he was “honored” to train, teach, and learn from his student.

“Throughout my career, I’ve had the luxury of witnessing some incredible people accomplish incredible things. And I’ve been honored to play a small role in their lives,” Camarillo added of Zuckerberg’s wins as “one of those instances.”

“It’s inspiring to see someone so known challenge themselves in a new arena,” he said. “This just goes to show how amazing the art of Jiu-Jitsu is. It transforms you, strengthens your willpower – it’s magical. It also draws some really motivated individuals.”

“You are truly an amazing person,” the martial artist and trainer closed his statement. “Thank you for sharing your drive, excitement, and generosity with all of us!”

In July, Zuckerberg returned the favour by congratulating Camarillo on attaining his fifth degree black belt in the sport.

“You’re a great coach, and I’ve learned so much about fighting and life from training with you,” he wrote beside photographs of himself and Camarillo being honored.

“Also honored to be promoted to compete at blue belt for @guerrillajjsanjose team,” Zuckerberg added, implying that he has progressed from the basic white belt.
