The yearly competition began on August 19 at a holiday spot in a village called Brezna in Montenegro. There were initially 21 people competing, but now only 5 remain stubbornly on the field.

How Have The Rules Of The Contest Changed Throughout The Years?
Before 2021, the contest was much more hardcore. The rules made it so that the contestants were not even allowed to get up to relieve themselves. However, it all changed in 2021. The resort owner explained, “Earlier we had a rule that there was no getting up, not even going to the toilet, so who could last the longest.”
However, they came up with an ingenious idea to balance things out and make it a fair game for everyone, “Since 2021, we introduced the innovation that every eight hours they can take a 15-minute break to go to the toilet.”
Currently, there’s a 21-year-old from Serbia who is the favourite to win the competition.

The competition started in 2001 in Brezna as a playful way to make fun of the stereotype that Montenegrins are lazy. If that isn’t absolutely brilliant, we don’t know what is!
While most of the contestants have been from Montenegro, there have also been participants from nearby countries like Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia, as well as from Russia and Ukraine.
What Are The Rules Of The Contest?
As per the rules, participants stay at a vacation resort where they receive three daily meals and are allowed bathroom breaks every eight hours. Their well-being is closely watched, and their sole task is to stay in a horizontal position. Any attempt to stand or sit leads to instant disqualification.
