Paris Fashion Week, an eagerly awaited worldwide fashion event featuring spring and summer collections, began in grand fashion on September 25. For NY Times writer Vanessa Friedman, this season was “the revenge of maximalism” as Marni, Balmain, and Schiaparelli seemingly left behind the ideas of stealth wealth and quiet luxury.

One of the many that caught the internet’s eye was an exceptional piece by Undercover creative director Jun Takahashi. The brand titled its collection for the Paris Fashion Week 2024 spring-summer season “Deep Mist”.

On the third day of Paris Fashion Week, Takahashi unveiled his designs, featuring models strutting the runway in dresses that looked like lamps and were adorned with real butterflies and fresh garden flowers.

How Did The Internet React To The Dresses?

Images from the show rapidly spread across the internet, eliciting a range of responses from the public. Some social media users applauded the collection, describing it as “dreamy” and “magical.” In contrast, others criticised the brand, asserting that “animals are not objects” and characterising the collection as “insensitive” and “tone deaf.”

However, as it appears, most individuals appreciated the art displayed on the runway. For people who thought that the piece was rather exploitative for the insects, a user explained, “This is next level. Congratulations on a wonderful idea. Please take a moment. There are doors on the back of the dress so that the butterflies can be released. This is very humane and magical.”

While another simply lauded the work like many other users on the internet, “This is so incredible! Inspiring work.”
