A Historic Moment: Images Show SpaceX Crew Dragon Bringing NASA Astronauts Back To Earth

Two NASA astronauts from the International Space Center have returned to Earth aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft. With this, a historic flight called Demonstration (Demo-2) mission was completed. A demo-2 test flight for NASA’s Commercial Crew Program took astronauts to the space station for the first time and brought them back to Earth safely. With this, Elon Musk’s company SpaceX has become the first private company that has managed to send humans to Orbit. Before this, only state-owned companies had been doing this.

This NASA video frame grab image shows recovery personnel offering assistance as NASA astronaut Bob Behnken exits the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, off the coast of Pensacola, in Florida. SpaceX had previously stated that the vessel would arrive near the capsule in the ocean in half an hour and would take extra time to evacuate. Flight surgeons will first inspect the capsule. The capsule will then be opened and the astronauts will undergo a medical examination and then fly to their home in Houston. Significantly, before this, NASA astronauts had splashed down from space on 24 July 1975.
