A Second Chance! Sisters Hear Dad's Heartbeat After 4 Years Of His Death

Is it possible to hear a heartbeat after the organ’s owner dies? With medical technology making headlong leaps, the incredible feat is apparently achievable. Three sisters from Connecticut, in the United States, could hear their father’s heartbeat again, four years after he passed away. This became possible because their dad had donated his organs.

A touching video was shared on the Today Show’s Instagram page. It showed the sisters meeting the person who received their father’s heart. It made everyone on the internet feel warm inside.

Kisandra Santiago, a 22-year-old from Meriden, Connecticut, made the decision to donate her dad’s heart after his passing in 2019, as per a report by NBC News Connecticut.

Santiago’s hope while giving away her father’s heart was that she and her siblings would have another chance to listen to their dad’s heartbeat again. She was determined to find a donor for her father’s preserved heart. The search was in no way easy.

However, after four years on her mission, she finally found a match for her father’s heart. Santiago recounted, “This is something that my dad would be so happy to see.”

Kisandra’s dad, Esteban Santiago, passed away when he was 39 years old due to a sudden health problem. He had to go to the hospital and ended up in a coma.

Since Kisandra was the oldest daughter, she had to make a tough choice to take her father off life support, just like he wanted. The family decided to honour his wish to donate his organs, and they chose to give his heart to someone who needed it.

The choice they made helped save Peter Turzer’s life. In 2016, he had a bad car accident and had several heart attacks during surgery for his injuries. He went through a grave surgery and was in a coma for a whole week, and his life support almost got turned off.

But amazingly, he woke up and started getting better. However, he had more health problems, and eventually he needed to have one of his legs amputated. He also needed a new heart, and in July 2019, he got Esteban Santiago’s heart. It was a very important moment in his journey to get better and survive.
