Love Of Learning: Sisters Climb Mountain & Scramble Up Tree To Get Signal For Online Classes

During the coronavirus pandemic, a lot of students have not been able to attend online classes due to lack of access to the internet. There have been a lot of incidents where students were required to travel long distances to reach a place where they could find proper internet connectivity. Two sisters in western El Salvador face the same problem. They walk a kilometre to climb a mountain, then scramble up an olive tree to get a signal to access their online college lessons.

According to Internet World Status, almost 60 per cent of El Salvador’s 6.6 million residents use the internet. Thousands of El Salvadorans living in rural areas have faced the same juggling act since March when authorities closed schools and universities to halt the spread of the novel coronavirus.
