Strong Aurora Borealis Caught On Cam, Flashes Seen Even In Arizona
Reddit
On Sunday, April 23, a severe geomagnetic storm flared up strong Aurora Borealis over the United States. The phenomenon was so strong that the northern lights were seen as far as the US and Mexico border.
Usually, states close to the US-Canada border have a higher chance of catching these lights. However, on Sunday, sights of the auroras were recorded as far as California, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Arkansas, according to spaceweather.com. The lights were also seen all around the UK and northern Europe.
A video capturing the dancing aurora borealis posted on Reddit is taking the internet by storm. Over Twitter too, people from around the USA shared their view of the flaring northern lights. The fabulous show was seen on Sunday because of a coronal mass ejection. For those who have no idea what that is, it is a massive eruption of solar material from the Sun’s corona.
Many Missed The Golden Opportunity To Watch The Northern Lights
While many people had the fortune of stumbling upon the magical sight, many residents in the US had no idea about the phenomenon’s occurrence. So, they lamented in the comment section of the Reddit video. One user cried, “Damn I’ve always wanted to see the northern light but traveling and cold aren’t my favorite, would’ve loved to have seen this in Arizona.”
One user noted how these auroras become more colourful on camera than in real life, “They don’t look anywhere near this to the human eye. I live in northern Sweden and have seen some powerful ones. For some reason, they become much more colorful on camera. It’s still a show worth watching though.”
Another user mentioned, “Well I’m in arizona and hearing that I may have been able to see it (unlikely, probably visible in northern arizona) makes me upsetty.”
After watching the magnificence of the aurora borealis in the video, one user wondered, “It would have been hard to not believe in different gods back in the day.”
Amidst the regretful commenters, one user who had the chance to witness the phenomenon came forward and claimed, “I saw it in Colorado.”
