A Surat firm recently made an exceptional discovery and stumbled upon an unprecedented “diamond within diamond.” The discovery was made by V D Global sometime back in October 2022. On finding the 0.329-carat D-coloured stone, the diamond city firm named the diamond “Beating Heart.”

Surat Firm Finds Rare ‘Diamond Within Diamond’
The diamond is certainly a sight to behold. It is, as its description states, a smaller diamond within a cavity of another diamond. The stone has been identified as one of the rarest of the rare when it comes to diamond finds. The precious stone was originally part of a parcel of rough that was found by a manufacturer in Surat.

The stone was given the breathtaking moniker after the one who found it “suggested it be named the ‘Beating Heart’ based on the first feelings upon witnessing the stone.” Vallabh Vaghasiya, the chairman of V D Global, said, “While examining roughs at our Surat facility, we found this rare piece of diamond that had another smaller piece trapped inside, but moving freely, which we had never come across earlier.”
The Diamond Was Sent To The UK For Furthur Analysis

Vaghasiya also confirmed in a chat with TOI, “We named it ‘Beating Heart’ based on our initial feelings upon seeing the unique stone.” VDG is a manufacturer operating in Surat and Mumbai and also has business spread globally; they contacted De Beers and sent the stone for further thorough analysis at its facility in Maidenhead, UK.
Various tests and analyses, like preliminary analysis, optical and scanning electron microscopy, and more, were conducted to confirm the authenticity of the find. After this, the De Beers Institute of Diamonds announced the discovery of the diamond and also shared that the “beating heart” was not part of the rare diamonds that include Matryoshka, one of the first such diamonds that was unearthed in Siberia, Russia.
