These Before & After Pictures Of Greenland's Ice Melt From Space Are Pretty Disturbing

Climate change is for real and anyone who denies that is delusional. The heatwave in Europe that happened last week is causing Greenland’s ice sheets to water.

Ruth Mottram, a climate researcher, said that the ice sheet melt sent 197 billion tons of water into the Atlantic Ocean in July.

Satellite images from European satellite network Sentinel has been out on social media and is going viral. According to Euro News, pictures from Pierre Markuse, an expert in satellite images, shows how the ice sheet evolved from 2018 to 2019.

In these images, the darker ice indicates a greater level of melting because it absorbs large amount of sunlight. Images from this year also show ponds also melting in West Greenland. The pictures show a 72 km-wide area and the dark ice which advanced around 10 km.

However, the experts also say that the total ice loss is much greater. This melt is being compared to the extreme heat and melt that occurred in Greenland in 2012, when 97 per cent of ice surface experienced melting.

Two months ago, a picture also went viral on social media, which was scary enough to remind us that we have ruined our planet. The striking picture of how much ice has turned into water in Greenland, was taken on June 13 by Steffen Olsen. The picture showed sled dogs dragging a sled through what looks like an ocean.

But basically it is an ice sheet which is melting (it was not supposed to) and the sled dogs are forced to wade through water.

What’s worse is that we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg but the future generations will face situations that are much worse compared to the ones we are battling.
