Thieves and snatchers mostly target old people because they believe them to be more vulnerable. These thieves also believe they can get away with without facing much resistance. However, this time the robber learnt a lesson she’ll never forget: the 81-year-old woman she tried to steal from fought back like a total pro.
An 81-year-old woman, identified as Doreen Jones, was withdrawing cash from an ATM machine in Birmingham, UK, when a woman came up behind her and tried to steal her ATM card. But Jones showed courage and snatched her card back. The next moment, she grabbed the thief’s hair and collar.
The incident was caught on camera and was later shared on social media.

The thief then ran off, seeing the old lady fight like a warrior and didn’t return for a second attempt.
“She wasn’t expecting me, I tell you. I thought, ‘No, you’re not having my money, I’ve worked hard for that. She started screaming. I don’t know why she was screaming, it was me that should have been screaming and crying,” Doreen told BBC Crimewatch.
The cops released the footage on social media to identify the thief. The cops were also pretty impressed with Jones’ actions who fought back despite having suffered two heart attacks earlier.
“Doreen’s a tough lady and this suspect chose the wrong pensioner. But it has had an effect on Doreen, she has had heart problems since the incident which may be linked,” Peter Rawlings, West Midlands Police PSI, told Crimewatch.
