Bengaluru traffic cop fines another cop for wearing the wrong helmet

This is what happened in the city of Bengaluru. A Bengaluru traffic police fined another cop for wearing the wrong helmet. The photo was shared by the RT Nagar Traffic BTP official handle, and it shows a cop issuing a traffic challan to another cop for driving a gearless scooter while wearing a half helmet, which is illegal on city roads.

“Good evening. Health helmet case booked against police,” the cops captioned the Twitter post.

Since being shared, the picture has already garnered over 1,000 likes and hundreds of comments. While many lauded the traffic police for sparing nobody when it comes to rules, many raised eyebrows and thought this was a staged affair.

One user said, “He looks so happy. What a great photo opportunity. Now how about doing actual traffic management which is supposed to be your core responsibility.”
Another wrote, “Sir this has to be done more. I see many cops taking pillion cops without helmets and many cops letting them go by.”
A third user said, “Rules are for everyone. Follow the #trafficrules. #wearfullhelmet.” Yet another commented, “Publicity stunt.”

According to the New Motor Vehicle Act, if a rider violates Rule 194D by not wearing a helmet while driving a two-wheeler, the person may be charged Rs. 1000 or more for the violation. In addition, under Article 194D MVA, a rider may be fined more than Rs 1000 if they are found to be using a defective helmet or one that has a BIS registration. Even if you are wearing a helmet at the time, you may still be required to pay a challan for Rs 2000 for breaking the new rules.

So, while wearing a helmet is the best safety precaution, you should also be wearing one to not get a hefty fine.
