Woman Locks Thief Inside Kiosk To Help Foil ATM Robbery Bid in Maharashtra, Accused Arrested

A timely intervention by a woman helped prevent an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) robbery in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, various reports said. 

The incident took place in Valiv locality in Vasai early on Thursday. Not only did the woman foil the man’s attempt to break open the ATM, but she also got him arrested, NDTV reported

“Around 3 am, the 26-year-old woman spotted the man tampering with the ATM. She immediately downed the shutter of the kiosk and called the police,” the official of Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar police commissionerate was quoted telling news agency PTI. .

The police immediately rushed to the spot and arrested the accused, identified as Salim Mansuri.

The report said that the accused has been booked under IPC sections 379 (theft), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) and relevant sections of the law. 

In another unrelated incident, a man wearing a PPE kit sneaked into a jewellery store in Delhi and stole ornaments worth Rs 6 crore.

The burglary took place in Southeast Delhi’s Kalkaji on January 19. The thief got in after using a rope to jump over from the adjacent building. 

The CCTV footage indicated him entering at 9.40 pm and exiting at 3.50 am with his loot.

Police said the accused first entered a flat by breaking the lock. He then went to the terrace and crossed the roof of three buildings.
