A former employee of an Arkansas mortuary, Candace Chapman Scott, has been accused of selling 20 boxes of human body parts to a Pennsylvania man she met on Facebook.
According to the indictment unsealed on April 5th in federal court, Ms. Scott reportedly took skulls, bones, and teeth from a medical school and sold them to the Pennsylvania man for $11,000.
The court documents also state that Ms. Scott met the man through a Facebook group called ‘Oddities’ and conducted their transactions online.
Ms. Scott, currently incarcerated, has pleaded not guilty to 12 counts, including mail fraud, wire fraud, and transportation of stolen property. The charges also include conspiracy to commit these crimes.
A hearing is scheduled to determine if Ms. Scott will be granted bail.

According to reports, Candace was responsible for various tasks such as transporting, cremating, and embalming human remains.
Additionally, court documents allege that in October 2021, Ms. Scott offered a Pennsylvania man a “fully intact, embalmed brain.”
Over nine months, financial transactions between Ms. Scott and the man allegedly involved the sale of fetuses, hearts, genitalia, lungs, skin, brains, and other body parts.
According to an Arkansas Democrat-Gazette report, prosecutors seek to keep Ms. Scott in jail until her trial.
During a hearing on Friday, Assistant US Attorney Amanda Jegley expressed concerns to magistrate judge J. Thomas Ray that the defendant, Candace Chapman Scott, may be motivated to flee due to the possibility of a long prison sentence.
Ms. Jegley described the alleged conduct as “uniquely egregious and objectionable” and warned of potential public outcry.
Judge Ray acknowledged the shocking and depraved nature of the alleged conduct in the case involving Ms. Scott, who stands accused of selling stolen body parts for $11,000.
Although Judge J Thomas Ray acknowledged the “shocking and depraved” nature of the alleged conduct, he also noted that Ms. Scott is not considered dangerous and can only be kept in jail if she poses a flight risk.
