García became the oldest person living (male) at the incredible age of 112 years and 211 days on 10th September 2021.

According to Guinness World Records, Saturnino was born in Puente Castro (a neighbourhood of León, in the northwest of Spain) on 11 February 1909, although he always decided to celebrate his birthday a little earlier, on 8 February. When asked about the secret of his longevity, the 112-year-old said he said it’s all about ‘a quiet life’.

The man lived a quiet life with his wife and continued his life-long job as a shoemaker. He could survive this long also because he was short in height which was the reason he could avoid fighting in the Spanish Civil war that began in 1936.

Saturnino and his wife Antonina Barrio Gutiérrez had seven daughters and a son, who sadly passed away as a child. The 112-year-old was looked after by one of his daughters and his son-in-law. His family is huge, comprising 14 grandchildren and 22 grandchildren.

The man was an enthusiastic football fan and played the game for years and even co-founded a local team, Puente Castro. As for the big clubs, he had been a supporter of the club Cultural Leonesa. Two years ago, he was honoured by Puente Castro as the oldest living member of the club.
