5 Former Cricketers Whose Prediction For Team India Down Under Went Horribly Wrong

On January 19, Team India won an epic game to seal an epic series win over Australia Down Under. After over 70 years of failing to do so, they did it twice in-a-row.  But this win was more precious because this Aussie side was stronger and the Indian team had to rely on its bench strength. 17 players used of which 5 were debutants and also only 2 players played all 4 Tests as injuries plagued us. Nonetheless, we triumphed.

Now rewind to December 19, 2020. India were bowled out for 36, their lowest Test score and lost the opening game in 3 days. What was worse was that they lost skipper Virat Kohli for personal reasons and premier pacer Mohammed Shami was out injured for the rest of the series.

All the knives came out as some former players began to predict a 4-0 whitewash for India. They were forced to eat their words as we won the next game in 4 days, drew the one after that and won a thriller in the decider. Who are these people? Let’s take a look along with what they said:

1. Michael Clarke

“Can you imagine this Indian batting line-up without Virat Kohli for the next two Test matches? They are in deep trouble.”

2. Ricky Ponting

“There could be a good chance of a whitewash. With Kohli not being there, there’s almost no one to pick them up after a loss like that.”

3. Mark Waugh

“I just can’t see how they can bounce back after Australia whitewashed them in Adelaide, 4-0 to Australia”

4. Michael Vaughan

“Told you, India are going to get hammered in the Test series.”

5. Brad Haddin

“I thought their only opportunity to win a Test was in Adelaide. I don’t think they will be able to turn it around.”
