Bhupathi declines to play with Paes

Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes

BANGALORE: Under-pressure world doubles star Mahesh Bhupathi refused to blink even as the All India Tennis Association sort to apply pressure from all quarters in getting him to agree to play with Leander Paes at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, starting late July.

Bhupathi, 38, who won the French Open title with Sania Mirza 10 days ago, let the selectors know in writing that while he was always available to play for India, he was declining the dictate to partner Paes, who had broken-up their partnership just eight months ago when they were in the midst of preparing for the Olympics.

The selectors had written to Bhupathi, who is in London preparing for the Wimbledon tennis championships, which is also an Olympic Games venue, informing him of his selection.

Earlier, Leander Paes in a statement to the media, said that while he had asked to partner Bopanna for the Olympics, he was willing to go with whoever the selectors picked to play with him.
